Turn Off Instagram Comments on Android

This article teaches you how to disable comments on new or existing Instagram posts when you’re using an Android.

Steps

Editing an Existing Post

  1. Open Instagram. It’s the red, purple, and orange camera icon on your home screen. If you don’t see it there, you’ll find it in the app drawer.
    • If you’re not signed in to Instagram, follow the on-screen instructions to sign in now.
  2. Tap the profile icon. It’s the silhouette of a person’s head and shoulders at the bottom-right corner of the screen.
  3. Scroll to the post.
  4. Tap . It’s at the top-right corner of the post.
  5. Tap Turn Off Commenting. Comments are now disabled for this post.
    • If you want to re-enable commenting later, tap again and select Turn On Commenting.

Making a New Post

  1. Open Instagram. It’s the red, purple, and orange camera icon on your home screen. If you don’t see it there, you’ll find it in the app drawer.
    • If you’re not signed in to Instagram, follow the on-screen instructions to sign in now.
  2. Tap the new post button. It’s the plus sign in a square at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Select a photo or video and tap Next.
  4. Select a filter and tap Next. Selecting a filter is optional.
  5. Tap Advanced Settings. It’s at the bottom of the screen.
  6. Slide the “Turn off commenting” switch to the On position. When the switch turns blue, you’ll know that commenting is disabled for this post.
  7. Tap the back button to return to the post.
  8. Type a caption. If you want to include text along with your post, type it into the “Write a caption…” field.
  9. Tap Share. Your post is now shared with your followers. They’ll be able to click the heart button to show support, but they will not be able to comment.
