Update Payment Information on Netflix

Netflix is an on-demand internet movie and TV show streaming service that provides unlimited access to the service for a flat monthly rate. The service is currently available through a number of devices, including Mac & PCs, Internet-connected TVs and Blu-ray players, game consoles, and mobile devices. To change your payment information, you will need to log into the Netflix website using a web browser.

Steps

Changing Your Payment Information

  1. Log into the Netflix website. The only way to change your payment information is to access your account in a web browser. Open the Netflix homepage and log in with your email and password.
    • Even if you only use Netflix on your console or other device, you will need to use the website to update your information.
  2. Open your account page. Click your profile picture in the upper-right corner and select "Your Account". This will load your account preferences page.
  3. Click the "Update payment method" link. This is located to the right of your current payment method, in the Membership & Billing section.
  4. Select the payment method you would like to use. You can use a credit card or PayPal to pay for your Netflix membership. If you want to use PayPal you can login with your PayPal account. If you are using a credit card, enter in your credit card information into the fields provided.[1]
    • You will be charged monthly using the payment method you provide.
  5. Call your credit card company or bank if your card cannot be verified. If your card cannot be verified, call the toll-free number printed on the back of your credit card to determine the cause for the block. Your card may be activating fraud protection, and the only way to resolve this is by calling your credit card company or bank.

Using a Non-US Credit Card for a US Account

  1. Enter your credit card number as normal. You can use most international credit cards with a US Netflix account, as long as they are Visa, Mastercard, or American Express. You cannot use virtual credit cards like Entropay.
    • Some pre-paid Visa cards may work, but support seems to be limited.
    • You'll need to be logged in Get-Netflix.
  2. Create a fake US zip code. Netflix only asks for your zip code when adding a credit card, and will only use it to verify that the card is being added from the US. Netflix will not compare the zip code you provide to the zip code of your card's billing address.
    • If you have a four-digit post code, try adding a 0 to the beginning or end of it. You can verify that it will work by checking the USPS website.
    • If you can't figure out a working code, 90210 works for many people.
    • If you want, you can create a code in a state that doesn't have sales tax, which will save you a little money each month.
  3. Try processing the card. Submit your updated payment information. If your payment method is declined, try a new postal code.
  4. Contact your bank. There's a very good chance that your bank will put a hold on your payment to Netflix every month unless you set this up as a safe transaction. Call your bank and inform them that you approved this overseas transaction.

Tips

  • You can set up a US PayPal account with a foreign credit card and use that to pay for your Netflix subscription.
  • Consider alternate payment methods. If you are having difficulties getting your card verified, consider setting up a PayPal account to handle your Netflix subscription. You can also purchase Netflix gift cards from a variety of retailers and use those to pay for your subscription.
  • Cancel-Netflix at least a week before the end of your current billing cycle to avoid being charged for the following month.

Warnings

  • You must return any DVDs you have rented through Netflix to avoid being charged for them after canceling your account.
