Use Good to Go! for Tolls

Good To Go! is a recent Washington State electronic tolling system designed to raise funds for projects and decrease traffic congestion. Currently undergoing a testing phase, this system can be really handy if you need to commute on high traffic roads. These steps attempt to clarify the way it works.

Steps

  1. Know where the system is supported. Currently, the eastbound Tacoma Narrows Bridge, the northbound SR 167 HOV lanes and the 520 bridge use this tolling system.
    • On the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, you use this system to bypass the regular toll booths on the side of the freeway. On 167, you can drive on the HOV lanes even if you're the only person in the car.
    • At the 520 bridge, there's no toll booth present. Instead, drivers just drive under the tolling device, which picks up transponders or license plate numbers. Those with GTG have their accounts deducted, others are billed by mail.
  2. To apply for Good To Go!, you need to set up an account.
  3. Specify that you want a private account.
  4. Agree to the terms of use, and fill out the required information. Submit it.
  5. It will take 3-5 days for the application to process, and the required transponder will be mailed to you.

Tips

  • There's no monthly fee tied to this service, but to get the best usage, you have to use these routes frequently, such as for commuting.
  • The way this works is you drive under a sensor, and that sensor picks up your transponder, and automatically deducts money from your account.

Warnings

  • If you're using the HOV lanes on 167 and another person is in the car, be sure to cover up the transponder with the shield that came with it. Otherwise, money will get deducted from your account!

Things You'll Need

  • Valid credit/debit card
  • Vehicle information: make model, year, license plate
