Use Pita Pockets

Here's how to properly store and heat pita bread pockets to optimize freshness and taste.

Steps

  1. Freeze the bread if you do not plan to use the package within 2-3 days of purchase.
  2. Refrigerate if you plan on using the bread within 3-5 days.
  3. Always toast pita to restore the taste and aroma. To defrost: Microwave for 15-20 seconds or toast pita from a frozen state on med-high.
  4. Fill or spread the pita pocket with your favorite foods and enjoy!

Tips

  • Heat in toaster or oven to desired crispiness and spread the pocket with: butter, cream cheese, jams, peanut butter and honey, chocolate spread, sour cream, hummus.
  • Before buying pita, squeeze the package to ensure freshness. It should be soft.
  • Times on toasting and defrosting will vary.
  • When microwaving the pita, wrap it in a kitchen towel, it soaks the moisture that comes out of the pita while you warm it and prevents the pita from getting too soft.
  • Be sure to check the sell-by date on the package.

Warnings

  • Avoid microwaving too long (more than 20 seconds), otherwise bread will turn rubbery.
