Use Pita Pockets
Here's how to properly store and heat pita bread pockets to optimize freshness and taste.
Steps
- Freeze the bread if you do not plan to use the package within 2-3 days of purchase.
- Refrigerate if you plan on using the bread within 3-5 days.
- Always toast pita to restore the taste and aroma. To defrost: Microwave for 15-20 seconds or toast pita from a frozen state on med-high.
- Fill or spread the pita pocket with your favorite foods and enjoy!
Tips
- Heat in toaster or oven to desired crispiness and spread the pocket with: butter, cream cheese, jams, peanut butter and honey, chocolate spread, sour cream, hummus.
- Before buying pita, squeeze the package to ensure freshness. It should be soft.
- Times on toasting and defrosting will vary.
- When microwaving the pita, wrap it in a kitchen towel, it soaks the moisture that comes out of the pita while you warm it and prevents the pita from getting too soft.
- Be sure to check the sell-by date on the package.
Warnings
- Avoid microwaving too long (more than 20 seconds), otherwise bread will turn rubbery.
