Use Skype as a Radio Channel for Your Friends

Skype is a program based on VoIP technology where you can make free calls from PC to PC. Here is a simple technique on how you can make it into a radio channel.

Steps

  1. Download the latest version of Skype from Skype.
  2. Sign up for a Skype name. Your friends will have to do this too.
  3. Invite all your friends into Skype. All your friends including yourself will require skype, speakers and a microphone.
  4. Note that you have an option called "Voice Conference". Click on it.
  5. Invite all your friends into the conference.
  6. Create a song playlist beforehand (preferably in Quintessential player).
  7. Start your DJ work as soon as all your friends join the conference.
  8. Greet them and set a theme for the program. Sample themes can be like Rock, Pop, Shakira nite etc.
  9. Keep it rolling. After you finish speaking in the mic keep it in front of your speakers and start the songs.
  10. It will be broadcast to all the people in the conference.

Tips

  • You can also ask your friends to make any dedications or requests if you have a large collection of songs.
  • Fix a time daily and tell your friends to come online at that time and then you can have this radio channel daily!
  • While changing from one song to the other, try to create a fade out effect. This can be done by simply decreasing the volume to zero, go to next song and again increase the volume gradually, or by software.
  • You can also ask them to rate each song which is being played in the channel.

Warnings

  • This will not actually be broadcast on a real AM or FM radio.
  • Don't turn your speakers on too loud or all your friends will hear something else.
  • Keep in mind that playing copyrighted music over any transmission program such as Skype can be considered unauthorized broadcasting, and illegal. A common rule of thumb to stay safe is to not play more than one song off the same album in less than three hours.
