Use the PayPal Debit Card

One of the most convenient ways to send or receive money is PayPal. PayPal is a website that facilitates the transfer of money between you and someone else. Simply by signing up for an account, you can add a level of e-commerce to your personal finances or business. In addition to providing its customers with an online option, PayPal also offers a debit card for added convenience. The debit card is easy to use.

Steps

  1. Apply for a PayPal Debit MasterCard through your current PayPal account. It's a simple process, and the website will lead you through the application and approval system. The application will require you to answer several questions, such as your contact information, email address, language preference and type of account you wish to sign up for. The application process is relatively short and takes just a few minutes.
  2. Select a back-up method of funding for your PayPal account. This will link your account to a checking or savings account, which will allow funds from your bank to be used if your PayPal funds are depleted by a purchase.
  3. Know the limits of your debit card. When you first receive your card, default limits are automatically set for your card's use. The daily default spending limit is $3,000 USD. The daily ATM limit is $400 USD. It is possible to get these limits raised or reduced by contacting PayPal directly.
  4. Use your card as a pin-activated debit card at retail locations that accept MasterCard. Swipe your card and enter your pin number to make your purchase. You can use it virtually anywhere: restaurants, gas stations, department stores, hotels and more.
  5. Utilize the credit option for your debit card where MasterCard is accepted. Simply swipe your card and sign at the time of purchase. If you have enrolled as a Preferred Rewards member, you may be eligible to receive 1 percent cash back for every purchase you make.
  6. Use your debit card with or without an existing PayPal balance, as long as your back-up method of funding has money available. For instance, if your PayPal account is empty and you wish to buy a tank of gas for $30, you can still use your debit card as long as the bank account that is linked to your PayPal account has at least $30 available for your use.
  7. Check your balance with your debit card. Go to any ATM and select the checking option. Choose balance inquiry to see how much you have available in your PayPal account.
  8. Use your card at the ATM to withdraw PayPal funds. At the ATM, enter your pin and select the checking option and choose to withdraw funds. Fill in the amount you wish to withdraw and hit the enter button.
