Vacuum a Car
A dirty interior can cause a car to be very unsightly. Simply maintaining your vehicle interior can make your car appear years newer. In addition, a clean interior also creates a healthier environment while you drive, by limiting the amount of dust and pollen particles in the air. Therefore, it is important to learn how to vacuum a car.
Steps
- Choose an appropriate vacuum cleaner for vehicle care.
- The vacuum cleaner should have several attachments to reach all areas of your car's interior. These should include wide, narrow and soft brush attachments.
- Consider a handheld vacuum because of its compact size. These vacuums are easily carried to and from or stored in the vehicle.
- Use a cordless vacuum cleaner if you do not have convenient access to a power outlet.
- Remove any personal belongings or large pieces of trash from the interior of the car.
- Pull the floor mats out of the car to clean them.
- Shake the mats over a garbage can or the ground to remove loose dirt and rocks.
- Use the vacuum cleaner to suction off any particles that are stuck to the mat.
- Vacuum the car's floor.
- Use a wide attachment on the large floor areas. Slide the seats all the way forward and back to vacuum under the seats. You may need to use an extender with the attachment to reach all the way under the seats.
- Use a smaller, narrower attachment to reach around the floor pedals and the areas between the seats and the console.
- Check the carpet for stains and heavily soiled areas.
- Spray a carpet or upholstery cleaner on these areas. Follow the directions on the container for the amount of cleaner to use and the length of time that it should remain on the carpet.
- Vacuum the area once again to remove the cleaner from the carpet. Repeat if necessary.
- Use a soft brush attachment to clean the dashboards, doors and both sided of the visors.
- Clean the seats with a soft brush attachment. A smaller attachment may be needed if there is debris between the seat and seat back. Be careful not to scratch leather seats with the vacuum attachment.
- Open the trunk or hatch area and vacuum out the dirt and debris.
- Eliminate unpleasant carpet odors.
- Sprinkle carpet freshener or baking soda onto the clean carpet to remove musty smells.
- Allow the powder to sit for several minutes.
- Vacuum the carpet once again to remove the powder.
Tips
- If you do not have carpet or upholstery cleaner available, you can create your own cleaner by mixing laundry detergent with warm water.
Warnings
- Be careful when using water and cleaner around the radio and other electronics.
