Access Email at Work

There are tons of different reasons why you might need to check your personal email at work, but you might be prevented from doing so by your system administrator. If that is the case, read on to learn how you can access your email while you are at work.

Steps

  1. Know that many email addresses allow you to check email with any web-browser. AOL, SpyMac, .mac, Gmail, and many others don't require a mail client.
  2. Use mail2web. It's very useful if you just want to check email once in a while and don't want to go to the trouble of downloading a client. http://mail2web.com
  3. If you have a filter at work, you can use vTunnel to bypass the filter and check your email whatever way you want to. http://www.vtunnel.com
  4. System administrators regularly block web proxies as vTunnel, but you can search for web proxies or use an alternative http://webproxies.biz

Tips

  • Always respect people's wishes, dignity and their privacy, it is up to THEM whether to tell you something or not and remember people only tell certain parts of information to their family and close ones only.
  • Do not open any emails from anyone you don't know - if you get any from anyone you don't know, don't open them, just delete them, because you never know what they may contain, some of them may contain viruses, rubbish, untrue stuff, rude stuff or Trojan horses which could malfunction your computer and they may contain a TRAP!
  • Treat everyone with fairness, kindness and respect.
  • Be very careful of what you tell, remember not everyone keeps a confidence and if you are not careful the information can fall into the wrong hands and worse still the information could travel about (meaning the whole wide world will know your personal business).
  • Use netiquette (manners expected while communicating in Internet).
  • If you get caught checking your personal emails at work you can be honest or lie saying that you had an extremely important email or that someone work-related was emailing you (lying is only advisable if you feel your job is at risk).
  • DO NOT compose any personal emails/instant messenger conversations at work - Remember your boss, management, and also the IT team do have the right to access them and they are ALSO stored on the computer servers, remember what you put does not stay secret and it could also travel about (you never know who it could get back to?). Composing personal emails should be done AT HOME ONLY!

Warnings

  • Using vTunnel could violate something important that you may not know about. In other words, you could get in a mess if you don't use it responsibly.
