Achieve 99 Fishing in RuneScape

Reaching level 99 on Runescape fishing skill is one of the most tedious objectives to reach (besides Runecrafting), but the accomplishment is also very rewarding. This article could even make you up to +1m depending on the methods you choose.

Steps

  1. Net shrimp at Lumbridge Swamp at levels 1-20. You'll only need to catch about 100 of them (15-20 minutes). You can drop them for faster experience, or if you need GP for more bait/feathers at higher fishing levels, bank them in Lumbridge.
  2. Bait fish at the river next to Lumbridge from levels 10-25, or if you want a close bank, go to Draynor Village. It will require that you buy about 360 fish bait, which you can find at the Port Sarim or at Grand Exchange for bait and fishing rod.
  3. Buy about 1k feathers and head to Barbarian Village for levels 25-50. Head over to the barbarian village and lure fish. You can lure fish at most spots and lure fish, such as on the lumbridge river, which is the easiest spot since it is near logs for cooking and a bank chest for storing.
  4. Fly fish from levels 50-99 (184,759 salmon). Since there is no bank around, dropping the fish is the most efficient method, however loses you money. This will get boring quick, so if you want to, you can go onto the next method. You will obtain a 12.8m profit doing this if you bank them.
  5. Monkfish if you choose to stop at level 70. That is one of the easiest strand, and it gives 120 XP per catch. Before fishing monkfish you must have completed Swan Song. After the quest start fishing them at around level 75 up until level 99. This is also one of the best ways to make money.
  6. Fish for rockfish. You can fish them at level 90 for good money at about 38k XP per hour, and they fish at about the speed of sharks. World 84 is suggested to fish these as it is the unofficial world for rocktails. You can also fish cavefish at level 85 for about 25 - 30k XP per hour and decent money.
  7. Leaping Sturgeon/Salmon/Trout. Known to be the best fishing experience, this requires Barbarian training, which can be started at Otto's Grotto. At level 80 (which is the recommended level to fish this at), each full inventory takes about 2 minutes, each giving about 1500 XP. However, to fish all of these, you need at least level 45 Agility & level 45 Strength.

Tips

  • If set your Sound Effects volume higher than your Music and Ambient Sounds volume, you will hear a whooshing sound every second until you stop fishing, once you hear that whooshing sound stop, look at your screen and find a new fishing spot. This prevents you from having to look up at the screen every minute or so. This may only work if you are cage fishing, harpooning, net fishing, and possibly vessel fishing.
  • If you have done Shilo Village Quest, you can use the river to catch trout/salmon, and there is a bank nearby.
  • Lobsters tend to sell well and can be caught quickly. Karamja is a great place to fish for them and you can turn them into bank notes by talking to Stiles on the south part of the island under the volcano.
  • If you want to make more money while fishing, sell the fish raw. Raw fish often sell for more money than cooked fish.
  • Catching lobsters is extremely slow if you start at level 40. Wait until at least level 60, recommended doing trout/salmon from 30-60.
  • Check your character often (depends on location). You don't want to be killed or teleported by a random event, so stay where you are when the fishing spot moves, or stay there with a full inventory.
  • Join a clan; there are surely other people as bored as you that may wish to chat, or try chatting with the people fishing next to you.
  • You may want to multitask while fishing, recommended suggestions would be to listen music, watch movies, do homework or anything that can distract your attention for awhile.
  • Unnecessary items should be kept in bank, never bring to fishing since you want to reserve the space for your fish.

Warnings

  • Take breaks. If you don't you're facing minor or long term health risks, not just weight gain. Persistence is the key not endless grinding.
  • You do not need to harpoon from levels 30-50. The catch rate is too slow to bother.
  • Don't waste too much of you life on Runescape. School and homework is important too. Don't spend hour upon hour fishing. Go outside and breathe some fresh air.
  • If you are fishing Rocktails, then you may want to keep an eye out, because Living Rock Striker and Protectors can attack you. World 84 is an " Unofficial " Living Rock Mineral world. There are many people there, so your chance of getting attack is very low. But beware, it can be laggy.
