Use Mining Urns in RuneScape

Using urns in RuneScape is very helpful in gaining experience, as the pot collects "scraps" from raw material (fish, logs, etc) and gives you bonus experience when teleported. Using mining urns can be a huge push in boosting your mining level and encourage you to raising it.

Steps

  1. Know the different kinds of mining urns.
    • Cracked mining urn: can be used with ores at level 1; urn becomes full when the player has earned at least 437.5 experience; teleported for 87.5 bonus experience.
    • Fragile mining urn: can be used with ores of level 20 and under; urn becomes full when the player has earned at least 1000 experience; teleported for 200 bonus experience.
    • Mining urn: can be used with ores of level 40 and under; urn becomes full when the player has earned at least 1625 experience; teleported for 325 bonus experience.
    • Strong mining urn (members only): can be used with ores of level 55 and under; urn becomes full when the player has earned at least 2000 experience; teleported for 400 bonus experience.
    • Decorated mining urn (members only): can be used with ores of level 85 and under; urn becomes full when the player has earned at least 3125 experience; teleported for 625 bonus experience.
  2. Activate no-rune (nr) urns with earth runes.
  3. Carry the urns in your inventory. This is the only way that the urns will be used.
  4. Start mining. Once something is successfully mined, the "r" (runed) urn will then start to collect scraps. You will get notifications through the "Game Filter" or "All" tab on the bottom when the urn is started, at 1/4 full, 1/2 full, 3/4 full, and full.
  5. Click on a full urn to teleport it for bonus experience.

Tips

  • When carrying more than one urn in your inventory, only one will be collecting scraps. When the first one is full, the closest one to the first will then start collecting scraps.
  • When depositing in the inventory, you are only allowed up to 10 full urns. If you have started an urn, it will not stack with urns that have not been used.
  • As a F2P, it's easier to use the cracked urn for very low levels, such as clay, tin, and copper due to the little experience it gives. Use the regular urns for everything else. Coal is the most mined ore in RuneScape, due to the high volume high level smelting bars it needs.
  • If you mine and receive a gem in your inventory, it will not count towards the urn. However, mining gem rocks works on urns.
  • When using special items, such as Varrock Armour, and mine two ores at once, only the first one will be counted towards the urn. You will still receive the regular double experience for both.
  • Because pure essence requires a mining level of 30, you will need to use regular mining urns with them.
  • Decorated mining urns are the only ones that can be used in the Living Rocks Cavern (LRC). Concentrated coal and gold rocks are not the same as regular rocks, despite mining coal & gold.
