Adjust Volume when Taskbar Controls Are Blocked

Note: This is for Windows XP. Sometimes, you feel that it would be better if your computer was quiet, but some school computers block access to your volume controls. There's more than one way to skin a cat, so just follow these instructions to put a lid on your school computer.

Steps

  1. Understand the Risks. there's a good chance you could get into some trouble, but if your teacher is okay with it, then follow the next few steps:
  2. Go to Control Panel, My Computer, or My Documents.
  3. If you go to My Computer or My Documents, click on the Control Panel link on the left frame of the new window.
  4. You will see a basic list of things you can change. Click Sound and Accessibility.
  5. In the left frame, click on Advanced Volume Controls
  6. Check "Mute All".
  7. That is all you have to do.

Tips

  • There's a good chance these steps can't be blocked. The teachers and administrators need an easy, discreet way to do it.
  • Be sure your teacher isn't looking if you don't have her permission. (By that we mean forgot to ask)

Warnings

  • DO NOT DO THIS IF YOUR TEACHER SAID NO! He/she WILL check, and she will notify the board about it. Your behavior record will be smudged, and the board may come up with a much harder way to change the volume.
