Approve a Follower Request on Instagram

If you have a private Instagram account, potential followers will have to request permission to access your photos and videos. Follow these steps to approve a follower request.

Steps

  1. Open the Instagram app on your phone.
  2. Navigate to your Activity feed. This is the heart-shaped button immediately to the right of your camera icon. You might see an orange pop-up hovering over this icon, which lists the number of comments and follower requests you have.
  3. Tap the username of the person you would like to approve. This will take you to the user's profile page.
  4. To approve the request, tap the green checkmark at the top of the person's profile page. If you would rather deny the request, tap the red "X".

Tips

  • Currently, there's no way to approve follower requests using your web browser.
