Brew Simple Wild Berry Wine

People have been practicing fermentation for thousands of years, without a lot of technology. You can do it, too.

Steps

  1. Gather about a cup of wild berries. Do not wash them.
  2. Blend/crush them to a pulp.
  3. Put in a quart jar.
  4. Fill the jar with water.
  5. Stir often, at least 3 times a day.
  6. Keep a cloth or something loosely over the mouth of the container, to keep out flies.
  7. Wait a few days, and it should start to bubble sometime within that time frame.
  8. After about 2 weeks the bubbling will slow down.
  9. Enjoy your cheap, young wine.

Tips

  • Do not use just any wild berries; make sure to do research and make sure they're edible!
  • If you want vinegar, let it sit for another couple weeks.
  • If you want to age the wine, put it under something that will keep out oxygen, such as a brewer's airlock or a balloon or a condom (non-lubricated). Just be sure to let out the pressure daily!

Warnings

  • Take care to ensure and maintain a high standard of cleanliness throughout this process.
