Buy a Classic Camaro

Have you been yearning for a classic Camaro to show your style? Maybe it is that classic from the late 1960s that Chevrolet used for inspiration for the 2009 model Camaro. Perhaps it is the mid-1970s model that was used in detective movies. Whichever one, it is about getting ready to buy a classic Camaro.

Steps

  1. Decide on what model of Camaro you want.
    • Look at those made between 1967 to 1981. There are two body styles: the first generation 1967 to 1969 and then the 1970 to 1981 second generation Camaro.
    • The look of a classic muscle car comes from those made from 1967 to 1969.
    • The second generation has a more muscular, heavier look than the '67, '68 and '69.
    • Fast and low is the look you see in a Classic Camaro. Models from the second generation will fit the bill with their fastback and ground hugging body style. After all, it dominated the American sports coupe market for 12 years.
  2. Choose the year you want, then do your research of that particular model.
    • Your best source of information will be fellow enthusiasts of this particular vehicle. A good place to start is with active Camaro clubs. Most will allow you to join even if you haven't found your auto yet. That's because it is more about enthusiasm for that particular model than ownership.
    • Other good sources of information are the Internet as well as magazines dedicated to, and books written specifically about, the Camaro.
    • Auto trader Classics and Hemming's Classic are two possible sources. Another is your local newspaper.
    • Attend classic auto auctions, which are held across the country. Meacham and Barrett are the two most commonly known auctions.
  3. Keep your patience. It will be the most important asset you will have in the search.
  4. Make sure the title is original and check under the hood. Use rags and degreaser on the engine, axle and body VIN numbers.
    • Classic auto auctions are required to prove originality and document any changes made in the car. They also have to show past ownership of the car.
  5. Buy the classic Camaro of your dreams when you find the right one.

  • Research is important, because you need to know what engine, transmission, rear-end ratios and other options there are for the Camaro you found.
