Join a Classic Car Club

Do you find that when a classic car passes you by, your heart beats a little faster? Perhaps you realize that a number of the magazines you subscribe to are classic-car oriented. Maybe you find that, rather than playing golf with your friends on weekends, you attend classic car shows. If these blurbs describe you, you may want to join a classic car club. You don't have to own a classic car to become a member.

Steps

  1. Decide what kind of car club you want to join. Are you passionate about classic cars in general or a particular make or model?
  2. Take steps to fully research your interests.
    • The quickest way to find any car club is through the Internet. Navigate to the membership section and apply on line once you find right site.
    • Attend a classic car show. See if show participants display club badges or stickers on or beside their vehicles. They should be able to answer any questions you have.
    • Automobile magazines are another great way to find car clubs. Some publications are model-specific while others are generalized. Any of these have ads for car clubs with contact information on the last few pages.
    • Time and money spent at flea markets picking over greasy, dirty old parts that came out of old cars can often result in a car club contact. Many of them are collectors who buy parts even when they don't own the model of car they go into.
  3. Once you find the right car clubs, contact them by phone or email.
  4. Join the right classic car club. Membership gives you the ability to attend events and shows that may not be accessible to the public.
    • You will be able to hear guest lectures and meet people of a like mind.
    • You may also be able to acquire your dream car from another member.

Tips

  • See if there are any chapters near you when checking out national clubs. Attend a meeting and get a feel for the club to see if it might be a good fit for you.
  • Most international and national clubs have an online application for sign up and payment of membership dues.

Warnings

  • Major car clubs may require payment of national as well as chapter dues.
