Buying a Good Present
- Think about the person you are buying for. Consider their interests, personality, hobbies etc. Think about what they would appreciate most. Don't just buy something that you think will be convenient;really spend time thinking about their ideal gift.
- Ask their family and friends they have mentioned anything that they would really like.
- Create a budget that is appropriate for the occasion. Is it for a birthday, to show your condolences, a wedding, or just because? You can also just plan to spend the same amount of money on this person as they've spent on you in the past.
- If you're still clueless on what to get, it's time to trawl the shops!
- Go into quality shops, look around and look closely at everything that catches your eye or resembles that persons personality. Imagine you are the person you are buying for. Imagine how much you would use this thing, what you would use it for, how good it would be to them. If it seems like an ideal present, consider it.
- The best thing to do is remember where you see certain things and go and check out some of the other shops! You could find something a lot better, and then you would regret buying the first thing you saw!
- After you have checked what's on offer, decide which item your friend would most like. Check the price, check that it is not too ridiculous! Then buy it!
- Either go to a department store with a gift wrap service or carefully wrap it yourself to get the best results!
- Always have a back-up plan, or something last minute to give your friend if you still come up with nothing.
- Make something for them. It could be a card, homemade cake, moon sand, a voodoo doll, soap, candles, a scrapbook, a blanket, wind chimes, a bookmark.....whatever you can think of.
- You can't go wrong with gift cards. You can always fall back on generic favorites such as ITunes or Amazon gift cards. For a more personal touch, consider a gift card to a less well-known restaurant you've discovered. Or you can choose something really unique and creative like a Use Zidisha person-to-person micro-lending gift card.
- If you can't find anything that catches your eye, get a cute card and put some cash in it.[[Image:Buy a Good Present Step 9.jpg}}
- Second hand. This doesn't mean you spend less on your presents instead you give them more, for example someone would be happier if instead of spending 10 pounds on a book you gave them 5 second hand books.

Tips
- Choose something that reflects the person interests or personality.
- The idea that "you can never go wrong with money" is not necessarily true. Carefully consider your relationship with the person and the reason you're getting the gift (e.g. cutting your mother a check for her birthday probably isn't appropriate).
- Don't just choose something because it is cheap.
- Make sure you're thinking of them when you are looking for presents, don't assume they'll like what you like. Equally if you live with the person or suchlike, don't buy something for yourself and say it is for them.
