Change Engine Oil on a Chevy Avalanche

How to change engine oil on a truck

Steps

  1. Gather tools and materials. Collect everything you will need before you start, such as a wrench appropriate for your oil filter, a bucket to drain the old oil into, the amount of oil needed for your truck, and a new oil filter to replace the old one. If you need to go to out to get some tools or materials, take the truck whose oil you're going to change. This will warm the oil beforehand and it will drain more easily.
  2. Raise your truck. Use a jack that lifts more than the weight of your truck. Remember to put the parking brake on while doing this.
  3. Get under the truck and loosen the oil filter and the bolt under the engine oil pan. Make sure you have your bucket in place so the oil will drain into it, and not onto your driveway. Let the oil drain for a couple of minutes. Check that the cap on the engine is open; this will help it drain faster.
  4. After the oil has been drained, add some oil to your oil filter and screw it back in. Screw in the bolt that was on the engine oil pan.
  5. Add the amount of oil needed for your truck. After this, close the cap for the engine oil.
  6. Lower the jack and take it off the truck.
  7. Clean up and put away the materials used for the task.
  8. Start your truck and let the engine run for a couple of minutes. This distributes the oil in the engine.
  9. Now you're free to drive and don't have to worry about your engine.
