Change Your Home Page

Your home page is your starting point for exploring the internet. It is typically your most frequented site, such as a search engine, email, social network, or news. You can change your home page in any web browser, and many let you set multiple home pages. To make a search engine your homepage follow the below steps.

Steps

Setting a New Home Page in Google Chrome

  1. Click the Customize button in the Chrome toolbar. This is located in the upper right corner of the screen, and is denoted by a three-line icon. Choose "Settings" from the menu that appears.
  2. Select your new window options. Chrome has several options available for when you open a new window.
    • Open the New Tab page. When you open a new window, you will be shown your most visited websites and your installed Chrome apps.
    • Continue where I left off. This will open your last visited website when you start a new Chrome window. If you had multiple tabs open before, they will all reopen.
    • Open a specific page or set of pages. This will open one or more tabs that you designate whenever a new Chrome window is opened. Click the “Set pages” link to add pages to Chrome’s startup.[1]

Setting a New Home Page in Firefox

  1. Set a single website. Navigate to the website you want to save as your Homepage. Click and drag the icon next to the web address over to the Home button, located to the right of the Search bar. Release the icon to set it as the Homepage.To set a search engine just add its url. for example www.google.com
  2. Set multiple tabs to open. If you want to open several websites at once when Firefox starts, first open the websites that you want to set. Make sure the tabs are all located in the same Firefox window.
    • Click the Firefox button and select Options. In the Options menu, click the General tab.
    • Click the Use Current Pages button. The tabs that you currently have open will reopen when you start Firefox again.
  3. Find the "Home" button on the right side of the toolbar. The "Home" button is depicted by a picture of a house.
  4. Drag the entire URL over to the "Home" button until the button is highlighted. Release your mouse to drop the new URL onto the "Home" button.[2]

Setting a New Home Page in Internet Explorer 9 and 10

  1. Navigate to the website you want to set as your home page. Alternatively, you will be able to enter the address for the home page you want, without having to be on the site.
  2. Click Tools, and then select Options. The Tools icon looks like a gear and is located in the top-right corner of the window.
  3. Set your home page options. IN the General tab, you will have several home page options:
    • Click “Use current” to set the page you are currently viewing as your home page.
    • Enter website addresses into the field to open each one in a separate tab. Make sure each address is on its own line.
    • Click “Use blank” to open a blank tab when Internet Explorer starts.[3]

Setting a New Home Page in Safari

  1. Navigate to the website that you want as your home page.
  2. Click the Safari menu. Select Preferences from the dropdown menu that appears.
  3. Click the "General" tab.
    • To set the home page to the website you currently have open, click “Set to Current Page”.
    • To set it to a different page, enter in any website address into the “Homepage” field.[4]

Setting a New Home Page in Opera

  1. Navigate to the website you want to set as your home page.
  2. Click the "Tools" menu. Then, select "Preferences."
  3. Choose the "General" tab. Under "Startup," select "Start with home page." This will set Opera to display the home page every time you start it.
  4. Type in the URL of your desired home page and click "OK." You can Also click the “Use Current” button to use the website you are currently viewing.[5]

  1. Navigate to the website you want to set as your home page.
  2. Select the down arrow beside the "Home" icon on the Tool Bar.
  3. Select "Use this webpage as your only home page" on the menu that opens.

  1. Navigate to the website you want to set as your home page.
  2. Select "Internet Options" from the drop-down menu that appears under "Tools" on the menu bar.
  3. Select the General tab. Click "Use Current" to set the website that you are currently viewing as the home page. Then, click "OK." Alternatively, you can type the URL for your desired home page into the "Address" box.

Tips

  • On most home pages or websites, such as MSN, say in the top left or right hand corner "Make MSN your home page." If, of course, it is MSN.
  • Choose the home page that is most useful to you. You may select the login page for your e-mail account, your favorite information source such as wikiHow, an image site like Flickr, a social site like Facebook or a site geared to your career or other interests.
