Change a Macbook Into a Smackbook

Anyone can get angry and smack their Macbook, but can you use that energy to make multiple screens on your computer? This is a guide to enhancing your Macbook by creating multiple desktops that can be switched by hitting the side of the screen!

Steps

  1. Download Desktop Manager.
  2. Download the Smackbook zip file.
  3. Then, download AMSTracker

  4. Installation & Configuration
  5. First, open the AMS Tracker and SmackBook files on your desktop. Then drag the box in the AMSTracker file called AMSTracker into the Smackbook file.
  6. Open the application on your desktop called Desktop Manager.
  7. Start the Terminal application. You can find it in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder on your hard drive.
  8. Now, type "cd " into terminal and drag the Smackbook folder into the terminal. Press return.
  9. After that, you should see something similar to the following: "/Desktop/smackbook username$" (username should be your username). Type the following: "perl smack.pl" (without quotes) and press return.
  10. Presto! The terminal should say a message saying AMS hardware present and initialized. If it doesn't, exit the program and try again.
  11. Start by lightly tapping the bottom right side of the screen. Gradually tap harder until the desktop switches.

Tips

  • Hit the Macbook firmly, but not too hard. It should just be hit hard enough to switch the desktop.
  • Make sure you are on a solid, level surface that will not shake.
  • This will not work with most iBooks or desktop computers.
  • This only works for Macs with a built-in motion sensor.
  • If you wish to disable this feature, simply quit the terminal app.

Warnings

  • May damage your computer if you hit it too hard.

Things You'll Need

  • MacBook, MacBook Pro or MacBook Air (Note - Works on later model PowerBook G4's)
