Clear Internet History on a Mac

Deleting your internet history on occasion is a vital and basic digital security measure. It also doesn't hurt if you wandered onto a page you might not like other people to know about. Before your wife catches you Googling those leaked photos of the latest naked celebrity, consider using these instructions to clear your internet history on a Mac computer.

Steps

In Safari

  1. Open the browser if it is not already open.
  2. Click the "Safari" on the top menu bar.
  3. Click the Reset Safari option.
  4. Choose what you want cleared. There will be a long list of items that you can clear. Select the ones you want cleared, whether it’s just the history or include items like cookies and the cache as well.
  5. Click Reset. There is no way to easily retrieve any deleted information.

In Chrome

  1. Open the browser if it is not already open.
  2. Click the menu button next to the address bar. This appears as three lines.
  3. Click History.
  4. Click Clear browsing data.
  5. Select which items to delete and the desired time period. There will be a long list of items that you can clear. Select the ones you want cleared, whether it’s just the history or include items like cookies and the cache as well.
  6. Click Clear browsing data. There is no way to easily retrieve any deleted information.

In Firefox

  1. Open the browser if it is not already open.
  2. Click the History menu at the top.
  3. Select Show All History from the menu.
  4. Choose the time period folder from which you would like to delete items.
  5. Select the item and click delete on your keyboard.
  6. Alternatively, you can select a time period folder to delete. Simply right click and select delete.
  7. Close the browser. Once you delete the items, you are done and the items are gone.

Tips

  • It's good to clear your internet history every few days, even if you haven't gone to any bad sites. This helps the internet run faster and keeps your information safe.
  • If they catch you, don't deny it. Own up and apologize, they will be less angry than if you had denied it.

Warnings

  • If you use this often because you regularly go on naughty sites, it might not be the best idea. The person you're hiding it from will eventually find out.
