Complete the Sheogorath Quest on Oblivion

In The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Sheogorath is the Daedric Prince of Madness and to gain his favour, you must complete the Sheogorath Quest.

Steps

  1. Gain enough experience to reach Level 2; if you are not at this level you will not be allowed to complete the quest. Fortunately, it will not take much to get to Level 2.
  2. Find Sheogorath's Shrine, one of many Daedric shrines in Cyrodiil. It is located roughly halfway between Bravil and Leyawiin and close to the border of Elsweyr. On your in-game compass a shrine symbol should appear once you get close enough to the shrine.
  3. Speak to the followers of Sheogorath around the shrine, who will direct you to the Dark Elf character Ferul Ravel, who is dressed in white robes.
  4. Talk to Ferul Ravel, who will instruct you to gather certain items in order to summon Sheogorath; you will need to find a lesser soul gem, a head of lettuce and some yarn as an offering. He may also say that Sheogorath can only be summoned in rainy weather, but if you have the items he will come anyway.
  5. Gather the lesser soul gem (Easily available from any mages guild if you belong to one or magic shop), a head of lettuce (Try looking around small townships which have vegetable patches or in houses with kitchens) and some yarn (Found all over the land as random treasure in crates and barrels).
  6. Return to Sheogorath's Shrine and activate the Shrine of Sheogorath with the items in your inventory. The items will be removed and the Daedric Prince will have been summoned.
  7. Listen to Sheogorath's instructions; he will ask you to go to the fellowship of Border Watch to simulate an old prophecy, the K'Sharra Prophecy, which comprises of 3 acts, although only two will be known to you.
  8. Travel to Border Watch. It is almost directly south of the Shrine, but if you don't fancy walking through the woods (Especially at night) travel east from the Shrine until you reach the main road and travel south along it until you reach the settlement of Water's Edge. From there travel a short distance west and you will reach Border Watch.
  9. Ask the locals of Border Watch about the prophecy and they will direct you to the village shaman Ri'bassa, who wears black robes and usually stays in his house (Located at the entrance to the village) or the Border Watch Inn (Located at the back of the village).
  10. Talk to Ri'bassa. Make sure his disposition is above 60 or he will not tell you about the prophecy, but once it is he will explain that the K'Sharra Prophecy is how the settlement believes the end of the world will begin; first there will a vermin infestation, secondly all the town's livestock will mysteriously die. The last sign is apparently so horrible that Ri'bassa will not tell you.
  11. Create the first sign by talking to the owner of the Border Watch Inn, S'thasa, who has a fine collection of cheeses. She will tell you of her prized cheese, the Olroy Cheese, which is so strong smelling that she keeps it locked in a case at the Inn. You need to steal this cheese to attract the rats needed for the first sign. There is a Very Hard lock on the cheese case, so the easiest way to open it is by stealing the key.
  12. Wait until most of the Inn's customers have left and sneak around the counter until you are standing directly behind S'thasa. When the timing is right, pickpocket the key to the cheese case from her. She may catch you, so try to save beforehand so you won't raise your bounty.
  13. Make your way back to the cheese counter and use the key on the case when S'thasa isn't looking. Then take the Olroy Cheese while no one is looking - and the hardest part of the quest is over.
  14. Go outside and you should see a fire and pot to your left. Walk to the pot and activate it to bring up the option of putting the cheese in the pot; select yes and the Olroy Cheese will be removed from your inventory.
  15. Wait a while and you will see a lot of rats running up the steps to the pot. Do not kill them until they reach the top and a message says you are successful in faking the first sign. After that you may kill the rats, although Ri'bassa will do this eventually.
  16. Talk to Ri'bassa about the sign; although he will come to you if you do not come to him.
  17. Wait until Ri'bassa is gone and you will see that he has left a couple of mounds of rat poison on the ground along the steps. Collect this and make your way to the right of the Border Watch Inn where you will find a sheep pen. In the middle is a feeding trough with hay.
  18. Place the rat poison in the hay by activating it and selecting yes. You can place both pieces of rat poison in, but only one is necessary. Wait for the sheep to eat the poison (Indicated by a glowing swirl above their heads) and they will eventually all die. Killing them directly will also work. You will then receive a message from Sheogorath congratulating you and telling you to go to the centre of Border Watch.
  19. Make your way to the centre of Border Watch and wait for a cool sequence of flaming dogs falling from a blood red sky. Everyone will begin running around and the sky will remain red until you leave.
  20. Return to the Sheogorath's Shrine and activate it. You will be awarded with the Wabbajack, a magical staff which will turn creatures such as deer, horses, crabs and sheep into a random creature such as a goblin, ogre or rat for a limited time. You will also gain one Fame point. After you have received the staff the quest will be completed.

Tips

  • If you meet any bandits or monsters on the way to Border Watch, don't attack them, but let them follow you all the way into the settlement - all the villagers there are heavily armed and Ri'bassa is a good mage and will heal everyone after the enemy are defeated.

Things You'll Need

  • Lesser soul gem.
  • Lettuce.
  • Yarn.
  • Lock picks if you can't steal the Cheese case key.
