Determine the Approximate Landing Information for a Plane with the FlightAware App on an Android

If you've ever needed to track a flight, you may know just how troublesome finding a flight's status can be. If you are looking for which planes are coming into an airport at a particular time, FlightAware can help you easily find this information.

Steps

  1. Open up the FlightAware app. The background is sky-blue and has an image of a jet plane with dashes trailing it. If necessary, you'll need to log in to a free FlightAware account. Otherwise, you can continue as a guest.
  2. Determine what page your app opened to. If you've been in the app before and have saved an airport, your My FlightAware page is okay. However, for most, you'll need the search box, which requires you to be at the Search tab. Look for the tab named "Search" at the top left corner. If it doesn't say "Search", tap the hamburger menu button in the top left corner and tap "Search" to bring up the Search page.
  3. Find the airport. Type either the airport name, airport code, or airport city/state into the "Search terms" or "Enter airport or city name" text box found above the toolbar with search tab options (such as by flight number, tail number, routes, or airports).
    • You can tap the Airports tab (if you want) to narrow it down to those airports that are near you or look at the flight information traveling above or near you on the map.
    • If you are on the My FlightAware tab, tap the "My Airports" tab, and look near the bottom to find the airport you'd like to watch for arrival flights at. Once you've found the airport, tap it.
      • You can add airports by tapping the + button in the bottom right corner, filling out the airport code or city name into the text box and tapping "Add".
  4. Open the Departures for the airport page. When you open the app, you'll be faced with a variety of flight information at the top, but you'll be at the "Airport Details" page. To find the ones which are landing, tap "Arrivals" (if you aren't there already) just a tiny bit above the flight's section of the page.
  5. Look for the flight(s) that have landed. Flights that have landed are seen as a checkmark in the top right corner, but those which are in the air are seen as a partially filled circle. Delayed flights are partially filled in red and those which aren't in the air yet only have a calendar in the top right corner. FlightAware lists flights from several hours back as the app page opens, but you can scroll the list up to view newest landed or landing flights - a difference between Android and iPhone.
  6. Read the details for the flight. Flight information includes a lot of information itself. The status is in the top left corner of the flight information, followed by the flight number and airplane type (on subsequent rows), followed by airport details (departure airport and time-date on the left, and arrival airport and time-date on the right), followed by terminal and gate numbers for both airports.
  7. Tap the flight entry itself to see additional details. You can watch planes in the air move on the map. You can scroll in a little, but you can also move the map to zoom in and see the airplane's whereabouts if necessary. Details change in real-time as the plane moves in the air to come closer to the real-time landing expected details.
