Disable Instant Message Forwarding on AOL Instant Messenger

Are you tired of having all of your instant messages sent to your phone when you are not online? Are your friends running up your text messaging bills by sending IMs to your phone instead of your computer screen? All you have to do is turn off IM Forwarding in AOL Instant Messenger.

Steps

From Within Instant Messenger

  1. Sign on to AOL Instant Messenger.
  2. Go to File menu and select Preferences
  3. Select Text Messaging from the left-hand column.
  4. Click on your registered mobile no. in right pane.
  5. You may delete the mobile no. from settings by clicking "Delete".
  6. Click on "Mobile privacy".
  7. Set your settings to "Accept messages only from people on my contact list or recent chats.". You will receive messages only from your contact list friends.

Through the AIM Website

  1. Visit http://www.aim.com/ using a web browser.
  2. Select the "sign-in" link, which will bring you to https://my.screenname.aol.com/_cqr/login/login.psp?mcState=initialized&sitedomain=channel.aol.com&authLev=1&siteState=http://mobile1.aol.com/&lang=en&locale=us&seamless=y
  3. Sign-in with your AOL screen name and password.
  4. Select the "Text messaging" option in settings.
  5. Select your phone from the drop down list, You can delete your attached phone.
  6. You can also select "Mobile Privacy" Option.
  7. Set your settings to "Accept messages only from people on my contact list or recent chats.". You will receive messages only from your contact list friends.

  • You can quickly access "My Mobile Dashboard" by clicking on , located on your buddy list.
