Dominate in Multiplayer Call of Duty 4

This article details how to dominate in multiplayer Call of Duty 4.

Steps

  1. First become familiar with the game and the basic concepts of fighting and moving. It's recommended that you beat the single player before attempting to fight online.
  2. Become familiar with your weapons. Learn how each weapon shoots and their details. For example does your weapon have a high rate of fire? What is its level of recoil? How long does it take to reload? Is it best in close quarters or at a distance? Knowing the answers to these questions can help prepare you to choose the best weapon for your particular situation.
  3. Learn how to use grenades. Stun and frag grenades are especially useful against multiple enemies in a tight, enclosed setting, such as a building in the Headquarters multiplayer mode.
  4. Become familiar with using your radar. The radar is an essential tool which can show where your enemies are, and is especially useful in Free-for-All matches online. But remember the radar only shows where people are if they fire their weapons; if they have silencers on their guns they are essentially invisible to radar.
  5. After that, begin to train yourself how to respond to certain situations. If an enemy is rushing into a building in which you are hiding, do you start taking fire? In order to become good you need to be able to respond to these situations with split second reflexes and accurate decisions that will help save you and your teammates but will still defeat your enemies.
  6. Practice taking cover! Learning to take cover is one of the most important tools in the game. If you are getting shot, taking cover behind a wall can save your life. But remember that certain surfaces can be penetrated by bullets (which can be used to your advantage). For example if your enemy hides behind a thin concrete wall, you can finish him off through the wall; your bullets will give him less damage, but you should still be able to finish him off fairly quickly.
  7. Bearing in mind the above points, begin to develop a strategy that suits you. If you're a sniper, train yourself to head to good sniper spots and be patient. If you prefer to rush straight into the battle, learn how to rush, shoot from the hip, and use grenades.

More advanced techniques

  1. Have a go with a sniper if the conditions allow it. Misty and rainy conditions allow you to take cover in places where you won't stand out. Buildings with cracks and holes in the walls make you almost invincible as long as nobody comes up behind you. You can plant claymores behind you to avoid this. Remember to use the crouch and prone positions to your advantage - a sniper lying down in tall grass is often undetectable. Remember, when sniping, patience is key.In S.A.S VS. Spetznaz games, snipers are even more effective, due to the fact they are wearing Ghillie suits. Also, don't give up when your target crouches behind a wall. Shoot the wall, and chances are, you will kill him through the wall
  2. Get headshots if you're feeling confident - they are an instant kill. With a sniper rifle at long range don't aim for the head! A sniper shot at long distance should usually be aimed for the chest area. Closer or still targets should be aimed for at the head.
  3. Boom! Cars in the multiplayer maps can explode. Use RPGs, grenades, C4, or bullets to shoot at a car until it catches fire and eventually explodes. This can get you classy kills if enemies are hiding behind vehicles. But watch out don't get to close, cars have a high explosion range(more than a grenade).
  4. Use airstrikes wisely. When calling in an airstrike, make sure that you have a UAV radar on your side, so you can see where enemies are located but don't position the air strike at the red dot sites but lead them a bit and anticipate their movement in the map to get the maximum effect. In Headquarters game mode, aim around the building or area with the objective.
  5. Voice chat can be a very useful tool in terms of tactics, but the game moves fast and many people don't use their headsets for meaningful purposes in Call of Duty 4. Even simple messages such as "One's coming in from upstairs" can enormously help out your team, who can respond and take care of the flanker.
  6. Use headphones or a surround sound audio setup. This can help enormously to hear where your enemies are. Using a good audio setup can help most in Free-for-all matches.
  7. Go Silent You can gain a huge advantage by picking off an enemy team from behind using a UAV jammer, bandolier and a silenced P90 or MP5 (MP5 is better for Silenced) Stick away from everyone else and use less used routes to get around the enemy team, with them pointing the other way and you behind with no way of being detected, you can wreak havoc upon them.
  8. The ACOG Has a Use Try "quick sniping" with an M40A3 with an ACOG attached. It may seem counter-productive but is much faster at shorter range and boosts the damage to a guaranteed kill on a non-juggernaut when you have stopping power applied 100-(75x1.4)= -5 health. This means it kills you opponent in one bullet even if shot in the foot. This ONLY applies to the M40A3.
  9. And finally if your really want to improve your evasiveness in close combat try jumping around and shooting and with the help of steady aim you can cut down an enemy in seconds. Also to gain the advantage on a person that may be hiding around a corner run and jump around the corner. This will completely take them by surprise and by the time they regain their composure you will hopefully have killed them.
  10. Campers Take out all campers, or completely avoid them. Take out the campers a fast as possible. Most campers will have Claymores, so check your corners. If needed throw a stun or flash in the room. In some cases prone down behind a Claymore and knife the back of it and it will explode. Know all the camping spots so you know where to look for campers.

Tips

  • Use your knife. It's a one-hit kill and essential to stealth characters. It also can save you in a close quarters situation because it is faster than reloading or switching weapons but be advised you should only use your knife if you are quick with it because if you have no experience in using the knife and miss you will be killed and look very stupid. My advice is to change your knife button that is close to your fingers and will be comfortable and easy to use in unexpected close combat. The button i would recommend on a PC is the 'E' button as it is close to your fingers.
  • Create custom classes that are tailored to your skills and preferences. Take note of what guns the best players are using and try to incorporate these into your play. Don't forget to choose your three perks wisely, too.
  • The red dot sight is your friend. The ACOG can be useful in certain situations, such as with an assault rifle, several submachine guns, the M249 SAW and M60 on a map such as Bog, but at medium and close range the ACOG takes longer to bring up and is harder to aim in with, and it clouds your field of vision, both around the immediate target and the rest of the screen.
  • Stick together! Sticking in a group of two usually pays off better than going solo. Groups cover each other and can take enemies down faster and easier than a single person can, but watch out for grenades headed your way. Don't stick too close, though - small groups are easier to surround than well coordinated & spread out teams.
  • Don't forget about UAVs, airstrikes, and helicopters. If you get three kills in a row without dying, you earn the privilege to call in a UAV to scan the area and show your enemies on your radar for 30 seconds; but remember that some people may have the UAV Jammer perk, which omits them from your radar. The airstrike is a powerful tool that you unlock after getting 5 kills in a row without dying. An airstrike calls in jets to drop bombs on a location you choose. After 7 kills without dying you have unlocked the ability to call in a helicopter, which will fly around the map picking off enemies. Beware the helicopter can be shot down by RPGs and ground fire (you can use this if your enemies call in a helicopter).

If in the beginning of a match save you helicopter until you die to get you another one.

  • Go solo! Conversely, flanking a bunch of preoccupied enemies can also pay off, and you can have the whole team dead if you're quick. Just check those corners!
  • Never steam-roll in without knowing where your enemies are they can be hiding and waiting to mow down whoever comes in. If someone is good in "bull rushing", it is just because he is much better than the ones he is killing.
