On Desktop

  1. Go to the PlayStation Store website. It's located at https://store.playstation.com/.
  2. Click the Games tab. This option is near the top of the page, just right of the "PlayStation Store" logo.
    • If you aren't logged into your PlayStation Network on this computer, first click Sign In in the top-right corner of the page and enter your account email address and password.
  3. Scroll down and click All Demos By Title. It's on the left side of the page beneath the "Demos" heading. Doing so will open a list of all available demos on the PlayStation Network.
  4. Click a demo you'd like to try. This will take you to the demo's page, where you can use screenshots and reviews to determine for yourself whether or not you want to download it.
    • To sort demos by device, scroll down and click your PlayStation's box (e.g., PS3 or PS4) beneath the "Device" heading on the left side of the page.
  5. Click Try Free Demo. It's just below your selected game's icon.
  6. Click Confirm Purchase. This option is on the right side of the page. You're not paying for this demo, of course--this is just to confirm that you want to download it to your PS3 or PS4.
  7. Click Download to your PS#. This option is in the bottom-right side of the page under the "Your New Content" heading. Clicking this button will prompt the demo to begin downloading to your PS3 or PS4.
    • If your PlayStation is on and you're signed into your PSN account on it, you'll see a notification window pop up on your TV alerting you that the download has started.
    • If your PlayStation is in Rest Mode, your download will still commence.

Tips

  • Demos are often several gigabytes in size. Make sure your hard drive and your Internet plan are suited to handle larger demo sizes before attempting to download them.
  • Downloading demos or games from the PlayStation Store website is helpful if you want to have the game in question installed during the day while you're away from your console.

Warnings

  • If you're downloading over Wi-Fi rather than an Ethernet connection, your download may pause sporadically or take much longer than anticipated.
  • Not all games have free demo versions.
  • As developers stop supporting the PlayStation 3, demos on this platform may cease to exist.
