Download Magazines to an iPad

Take your magazine reading to the next level by downloading digital issues and subscriptions of your favorite titles to your iPad. Forget waiting for titles to hit the real newsstands, access your iPad’s Newsstands app and start reading!

Steps

  1. Tap the Newsstand icon on your iPad’s Home screen to view your Newsstand.
  2. Tap the Store button to access the magazine section of the App Store,
  3. Browse the magazines available. Tap the Free button next to a magazine you would like to download.
  4. Tap the button again. The button should have changed color and should now read Install App.
  5. Enter your password or username and password into the alert box that appears. Tap the OK button.
  6. Wait for the magazine to download.
  7. Tap the cover of the magazine to open it after it has finished downloading.
  8. Select an issue that you would like to download. Tap the Download or Buy button next to the issue you want to download. This step may cost you money, depending on the magazine.
  9. The issue will now download. When it has downloaded, tap the View button to read it.

Tips

  • You can normally start reading a magazine before it has finished downloading by tapping the View button.
  • It’s best to download magazines over a Wi-Fi connection rather than 3G in order to reduce the drain on your data allowance. It’s also much faster.
  • If you buy a magazine issue, you may be asked to confirm your purchase. Tap the Buy button and enter your password if you want to continue with your purchase.
  • Some magazines take a lot of space on your iPad so make sure you have room available.
  • Some print magazines offer digital versions for free to subscribers. Check the details of your subscription and enter a code within the digital version of the magazine to access your free issues.

Warnings

  • If you restore your iPad or get a new one, you will also loose the magazine issues you have download. Fortunately, most magazine apps allow you to download your previous purchases.
  • Although the initial magazine app may be free, individual magazine issues normally cost money. Check the price before you download an issue from within a magazine app.
  • Some magazines offer different interfaces for downloading magazines within the magazine app.
