Draw Cartoon Bodies

Cartoonists rely on exaggeration and caricature when drawing. They are not shy about bending reality to achieve a wacky result. This article will teach you how to draw a basic human form. Once you become comfortable with these steps, you'll be able to develop your own unique style of cartooning.

Steps

  1. Start by drawing a stick figure. Draw it in any pose you want—you will fill the limbs and torso in later.
  2. Add guidelines for the limbs and body. This is generally done by using a variety of circles and ovals.
  3. Add detail to the head. Draw eyes, a nose, ears, mouth and hair. Don't feel pressured to make it look realistic. If you want, you can even draw an animal face!
  4. Sketch in the body. Don't forget to detail the hands and feet. Cartoons have the tendency to not follow the number of fingers we have so feel free to give your drawing as little or as many fingers and toes as you want.
  5. Add in clothes and accessories as desired.
  6. Outline your drawing in permanent media. You can use anything you like (for example, ink or paint). Wait a little bit before erasing the pencil guidelines.
  7. Color it any way you chose. Pat yourself on the back, you are now a cartoonist!
