Draw Gothic Manga Both Sweet and Elegant

This style is very expressive and based around body language and thoughts rather than speech, which makes it a good beginning style.

Steps

  1. Start by choosing a character style. Teens are the most popular, then comes children and adults.
  2. Draw a thumbnail sketches of different poses for your character until you like the look of one.
  3. Sketch in the face and hair. Don't make it too detailed - leave that for the end
  4. Once you have the basic sketch down, start detailing the face and clothes. Try drawing the eyes to capture their personality or emotions. Use heavy dark make-up for the face. A few piercings won't hurt. Because the hair normally falls in front of the shoulder for girls, do that later.
  5. Sketch in the hair, but don't draw each strand, draw clumps of strands that thin toward the ends. Try giving her a "different" hairstyle, one that sticks out. Give her black hair with wild colours in various places. (When the hair is in a ponytail the hair gets fatter at the end, but don't forget the fly-aways!)
  6. Understand that some themes that cannot be missing if you want the manga to be considered gothic are cats, crosses, the moon, keyholes and keys, veils, and others.

Tips

  • The gothic manga paintings most usually portray dark angels, wild horses, lonely mermaids, sad fairies, cats in the moon,Goth-dressed princesses, and others.
  • keep trying, everyone can draw, but those that take more time and practice are the ones that excel in it
  • Use dark colors(purple,dark red,grey).
  • If you get stuck or frustrated, take a break. Go have a snack, or watch some TV before coming back to your drawing. You'll be able to draw better when your mind isn't clogged up with frustration.
  • take your time, your 1st drawing probably won't come out as good as your second or third
  • use lead pencils or wooden ones, but make sure your pencil is always sharp and you always have an eraser around

Warnings

  • Make sure you don't rub your hand on the picture unless you want the edge to smudge.
  • Make sure lines flow and don't make them too sharp.
  • When sketching, you want it to be light, so when you get to coloring and/or outlining, the rough drawing won't show from underneath.

Things You'll Need
