Draw Itachi Uchiha

If you've seen the Naruto anime series (or read the manga), then you are already familiar with Itachi Uchiha. He is the killer of his family's clan and the arch nemesis of his brother, Sasuke. Learn how to draw him by following this step-by-step tutorial.

Steps

  1. Start by drawing his head. Like all anime characters should, Itachi has a rounded head with a pointed chin. His hair covers most of his face. Make sure to draw vertical and horizontal lines inside the circle. Make sure it is not "square" or triangular. This will help you 'fill' in the face later on.
  2. Draw the silhouette of his coat, and draw the folds and creases.
  3. Add the details. The folds and creases of the coat will emphasize how the garment hangs on the body. Also: this is a good time to draw the character's shirt beneath the coat.
  4. Draw the silhouette of his left hand, pants and shoes.
  5. Draw graphical details such the swirly clouds on his coat, and the crisscross lines on his shirt. Don't forget his necklace. You may want to use a reference.
  6. Continue adding lines to show the folds on his coat, pants and shoes, keep in mind you shouldn't over-do or under-do this step. Also, make sure your line places make sense, don't just draw random lines!
  7. Draw the details on his left hand for his fingers, using the guidelines. Move on to the toes on his feet, in the same fashion.
  8. End your artwork by drawing his face and headband. Use the vertical and horizontal guidelines to help with spacial elements.
  9. Outline your drawing in permanent media. You can also scan and do this digitally.Traditionally, use a pen for the face and a thicker marker for the rest of the body. This will help add weight to your drawing. When the ink dries, erase all the pencil marks. This keeps your illustration neat and tidy. For a digital approach, use a lineart tool of your preference in the program you're using, and add a new layer on top. Trace and fix your scan, in black, or a brighter color to make it easier. You can always change the color afterwards.
  10. Optional: Use weight techniques on your lineart. This includes darkening the line in specific areas where either: two lines meet, or darker and/or more shaded areas should exist. Don't over-do it, you should have room for color and the shades that come afterwards. Baylee has a helpful video here: [1]
  11. You can now color your drawing. Use the accompanied illustration to guide you in coloring Itachi, or you could always use a reference if you're not sure. Use colors such as different variations of gray, midnight blue and red. You can also add lighter and darker shades of your colors to add shade and lighting to your art for more realism, and overall attraction. Any medium works.
