Draw Link from the Legend of Zelda

Link is the heroic character in the Nintendo video game series The Legend Of Zelda. Here’s how to draw him.

Steps

Young Link

  1. Draw a small circle for Young Link’s head. Draw the cross-section (facing a little toward the left).
  2. Draw the framework for the body, legs, arms, and sword using straight lines and simple shapes like trapezoids, rectangles, and other polygons.
  3. Refine the body and also to make the clothes using curve lines. Add details especially for the collar and sling.
  4. Draw details for Young Link’s boots and belt using curve lines.
  5. Refine the straight lines and use curve lines to make the arms, legs, and hands more distinct.
  6. Draw details for the sword using straight lines.
  7. Draw details for Young Link’s face – eyes, nose, mouth, and turban.
  8. Draw refined details for his hair.
  9. Trace with a pen and erase unnecessary lines.
  10. Color using your imagination!

Link

  1. Start by drawing a basic circle and two guides through it as shown. One line should be wrapping around the circle vertically and one horizontally.
  2. Draw the body frame by making a stick figure as shown with circles at the shoulders where the arms branch off from the upper torso and a circle at the mid body where the legs branch out from the waist. Draw two oval shapes for the feet at the bottom end of the two lines drawn for the legs and a series of circles at the end of each line segment drawn for the arms to make up the hands as shown. The hands should both be in a clenched fist position.
  3. With the shapes used in the illustration, draw out each segment from neck to upper torso, sleeves, arms, mid body, and two ovals per leg with a circle representing the knee and have it connect from the mid body portion to the feet. Also draw a simple elf ear and hat for the face as shown.
  4. Draw two elf eyes as shown with two eyebrows both slanted down toward each other, a nose and a mouth made of a straight line and a smaller line directly underneath it to represent the lower lip.
    • For the hair, draw two basic shapes, one over the upper right corner of the circle drawn for the face this will be the bangs, draw the next one to the left of this shape and a bit smaller. Inside and at the top of the upper torso around the bottom of the circle drawn for the neck draw a half circle for the collar, draw a line through the lower part of this half circle, this will be Links undershirt inside the collar.
    • Underneath the shape drawn for the upper torso and inside at the top of the mid section, draw an oval shape to represent Links belt. Underneath and on the left side of this oval within the premises of the mid body shape draw two lines branching out slightly from each other to form the open seam of the coat.
    • Draw a horizontal line at the bottom of the mid section crossing through these two lines as shown. For both arms draw two horizontal parallel curved lines going through the very lowest part of the upper arm section with two vertical parallel lines, draw two pairs of vertical parallel lines crossing through both ends of each pair of horizontal lines as shown. This will make up the overlapping layers of sleeves for each arm.
    • On Link’s left arm slightly to the right, draw as shown, an oval slightly squeezed together in the middle being almost the size of the lower arm section, draw half oval like shapes drawn out from the top and bottom of the left side of this warped oval to make up the straps to what will become the leather armor covering Links lower arm. At the top of each of the lower leg sections draw two curved parallel lines fairly close together this will be the top section of Link’s boots.
    • Finally, draw a straight line from Link’s waist, just above the oval that was previously drawn as the belt. Draw the line up at an angle straight through Link’s left shoulder and up to about the height of Links head.
  5. Add the extra details! Start by drawing a ‘V’ like shape right at the bottom of the coat’s collar drawn in the previous step. Draw a series of circles and ovals as shown in the illustration following along the angled line drawn through Links upper torso and within the confines of the oval drawn for the belt. this will form the details for the strap, sword, and belt. After that draw the extra strap connected to the initial strap and the end of the sword
  6. Ink out your drawing and erase the sketch lines.
  7. Color in Link as shown and your drawing is done!
