Draw Wood

Making a surface look like real wood is very simple. All you need to know is what color the wood you want to mimic is and also what kind of grain it has. Let's learn how to draw it.

Steps

  1. To make the grain of the wood simply draw curvy parallel lines, they can be vertical or horizontal.
  2. Leave some blank spaces for curls. Wood usually behaves like this.
  3. Having filled the surface following that pattern it should look something like this.
    • You can add as many curls as you want.
  4. Use different shades of brown to paint it you can also draw it with coloured pencils instead.

Alternate Method

  1. Draw a square frame with small rips on its left-top part and right-bottom part.
  2. Draw wavy lines inside the square
  3. Sketch the knots. Illustrate the knots by drawing not so perfect circular shapes. Draw the circular shapes in sequence, starting from a small shape and ending with an average circular shape.
  4. Draw more wavy lines to finish up your artwork. Draw as many as want - depending on how complex you want your wood bark to look like.
  5. Outline your artwork. Outline by using a black pen or marker and by erasing pencil drawings to clean up your artwork.
  6. Color it and you’re done. Use different variations of brown to color your wood.
