Draw a Roller Coaster

In many games, like Roller Coaster Tycoon 3, you need to plan out a roller coaster. You can use the time honored technique of brainstorming on paper to do so. Here are some tips on drawing a beautiful, yet basic, roller coaster.

Steps

Method One: A Basic Roller Coaster

  1. Draw two curved lines.
  2. Draw five straight vertical lines that spread below the curved line. This will serve as the support for your roller coaster.
  3. Draw several slanted lines opposite each other so that your drawing would look like it has numerous triangles in it.
  4. Draw small semi-circles lining the top or your curved line.
  5. Draw a bullet shape as the front part of your roller coaster train, and then attach three more rectangles following it.
  6. Draw outlines of people riding the roller coaster.

Tips

  • Use light lead pencil first so you can easily erase and start over, or simply move things around.
  • Don't forget, most roller coasters are designed to be compact, allowing the maximum amount of track in a small area.
  • Do not worry about the quality of your drawings. You are simply brainstorming and anybody can do it; you do not have to be an accomplished artist, and it is better if you are not one.
  • You can create a "top-down" or aerial view as well as a 3-D view. Choose whichever style is easiest for you.
  • Be imaginative and have fun with your drawing. Try drawing coasters interacting with each other, or make them run over water, put in paths, make other types of rides close by, and detail the terrain by adding trees, foliage or other details. These items turn a picture of a coaster into an active park.

Warnings

  • Drawing two parallel track lines may become messy and confusing; use a single line if this turns into a problem. Drawing the track may be hard. do not mess it up!!
