Drift on a Go Kart
Ever notice that there is one turn on a go-kart track that is way too tight and you can never make it? Well this article will teach you to drift around that corner with ease.
Steps
- Approach the corner at a comfortable speed, but not top speed. You'll need to be at a speed that you can go faster.
- Quickly turn away from the inside of the turn.
- Before the kart goes in the other direction, make a hard, quick turn back to the corner and lean your body to the opposite side you are drifting to, so if you are drifting right lean left, if you are drifting left lean right until the end of the entire drift.
- Turn your tires to the outside of the turn.
- You should be slightly drifting now, but to increase your slide, hit your accelerator and then hit the brakes.
- To decrease your slide, hit the brakes first and then hit the accelerator.
- When you are parallel to the turn, accelerate as fast as you can, and you should come out of the turn gracefully and with style.
Tips
- If you go too slow, you won't be able to drift very well and just end up turning normally and crash into a wall.
- Sit well back in your seat so that you help the rear wheels slide a little more.
- Try not to slam the brakes, but ease onto them when needed. This induces a smoother transition between the brakes and acceleration.
- It helps if you are driving a high torque go-kart because you can accelerate faster.
Warnings
- Make sure that you have a spare set of tires as they will wear down quickly after a lot of drifting
- If you come into the turn too quickly, the kart will either spin-out, or there is the possibility that it will flip over
- Always wear a helmet and seatbelt while Go-karting.
Things You'll Need
- Go-kart (High torque is recommended)
- Appropriate safety gear
- Tight corner (it is advisable to start on a looser turn then work your way up to tight 180 corner drifting)
