Go‐Kart Safely

Are you a fan of motorsport? Do you want to go-kart? Here is top tips to drive properly!

Steps

  1. Always make sure you have the right equipment. You should have: Helmet, Race Suit, Balaclava and gloves. It depends which circuit you go to. You should always have the essential equipment for motorsport.
  2. Listen to the video they’ll make you watch or the marshals (stewards). They will tell you all the information you need to know. Don’t get distracted. It is important to listen because they will have the rules, safety info and which foot is the accelerator and which is the brake and how to get in and out of the go-kart.
  3. Remember, all motorsport has an element of danger, but if you listen to the rules and safety info, you hopefully will have a safe and enjoyable karting season. Make sure if you have any problem or worry, you tell the marshals (stewards).
  4. Make your self comfortable when you get in the go-kart. Make sure the accelerator and brake are close enough and your seat is comfortable.
  5. Go when the marshals or stewards allow you. Always be slow in the pit lane or you could risk getting disqualified for dangerous driving. Follow the way out and make yourself comfortable with the speed and the steering. The steering may be sensitive so get used to the go-kart.
  6. Start getting faster but slightly more careful with the barriers. Try and improve your lap times as much as you can. Make sure with your helmet your visor is down. Always leave a finger gap so your visor doesn’t steam up.
  7. Enjoy karting!
  8. When the chequered flag comes out, go to the pits and wait until the marshals or stewards allow you to get out. Take off your  helmet and everything which isn’t your own and give it back. Hopefully you have enjoyed your karting session.

Tips

  • Always be careful driving. If there are other people, don’t be too competitive if you haven’t got used to the kart. Just let them through until you are ready to start overtaking and being faster yourself.
  • Don’t drive too close to the barriers. You could swerve violently or stop abruptly.
  • Don’t be afraid to go into the pits early if you don’t enjoy it. As long as you got a taste of what go-karting is like.
  • Always obey the marshals and stewards. You could get banned from go-karting. If you don’t see them indicating to you, make sure you tell them. You could’ve been going quite fast after all, though it’s not likely you’ll miss the flag or gesture.

Warnings

  • You can get disqualified. Always be careful and don’t be crashing, remember go-karting is a non-contact motorsport.
  • There can be severe crashes in go-karting. All motorsport has an element of danger, but if you follow the safety rules, you hopefully will enjoy go-karting!
