Install iTunes in Wine

Want to use iTunes but don't use Microsoft Windows or Mac OS X? Perhaps you use Linux or BSD?

Steps

  1. Know the limitations.
    • USB doesn't generally work (Depends on your linux version. Updated versions supports usb). So you won't be able to use iPods or other devices.
  2. Download an iTunes version you feel confident with. iTunes 7 is known for stability. Check Wine HQ AppDb.
    • Compatibility varies between versions.
    • Stability varies between versions.
  3. Download and install Wine.
  4. Run winecfg (wine configuration utility).
  5. Download libraries. riched20.dll.
  6. Override the libraries you need to.
  7. Run the iTunes installer.

Tips

  • Alternatively just use something like PlayonLinux[1].
