Knit a Winter Scarf

When winter's coming, and the air's getting colder you'll want to make a nice winter scarf. This article will show you how to do it.

Steps

  1. Choose a thick yarn and large size of needles. This will make the scarf nice and thick and warm for winter.
  2. Cast on any number of stitches. Any cast on will do. But for a tidy edge, use the long tail cast on.
  3. Knit the first row.
  4. Knit the second row.
  5. Continue knitting in this manner. This will form the garter stitch, which is great for scarves because the edges don't curl.
  6. Cast off in the knit row when the scarf is the desired length.
  7. Weave in the yarn ends.
  8. Wear this winter scarf in the winter!

Tips

  • Knit with a light color yarn. Dark color yarns are hard for a beginner to count stitches or see mistakes.
  • You can make the scarf long or short. If you knit it for yourself, just make it long as you want. If you want it to give as a gift, ask him/her how long his/her usual scarf is.
  • This project is perfect for beginners. It is an easy practice, but also adds a handmade scarf to your wardrobe or to give as a gift.
  • You can add fringe to the ends of your scarf if you like.
