Make Cute Flower Nail Designs

Flower designs on nails are always cute, and they can enliven an outfit or even match floral patterns that you might be wearing. There are different styles of floral nail art that you can make, including the whole flower with its stem included, just the flower head and very simple flowers.

Steps

Painting a Whole Flower

  1. Paint all your nails with the base color you want. Decide which nail(s) you want your flower to be on.
  2. Apply a top coat to all the nails except for the ones you want the design on.
  3. Let the nails dry thoroughly. (About 30 minutes).
  4. Straighten out a bobby pin. Pick 2 colors for your flower.
  5. Dip one of the bobby pin end into the first color. Put one dot in the middle of your nail.
  6. Dip the other end into the second color and put five dots around the first dot. You can use a toothpick to drag the petals out more if you want.
  7. Paint a curved upside down "L" shape using a super thin brush across the top and side of your nail if you want.
  8. Put some leaves on the stem.
  9. Put a couple dots of glitter polish on the petals if you want.
  10. Let the nails dry. Put a layer of top coat on top.
  11. Have fun showing off your beautiful nails!

Painting a Flower Head

  1. Check the Things You'll Need list at the bottom of this page for the tools required.
  2. Paint your nails with a clear base. Some nail polishes can stain your nails and turn them a weird color, a base can help you not have that problem.
  3. Paint your nails with your desired color.
  4. With a matte (preferably white) nail polish, create small dots around your nail in a circle.
  5. Let the white dry for maybe 15 seconds, so that it is tacky.
  6. Take a toothpick, and start from the middle of a white dot and pull the toothpick towards the center of the circle, dragging out the white nail polish. Continue this with all of the other dots. Let the white dry. You've just made the petals.
  7. Take a yellow or orange color, and dip your toothpick in the nail polish. Dot the toothpick in the center of your flower in 3 little dots.
  8. Let it dry. Then put a clear coat on top, and voila! You've created a cute flower nail design and it was fairly simple!

Painting a Simple Flower

  1. Dip the brush into the nail paint bottle.
    • Clean sweep one side of the brush with the top of the bottle.
  2. Make two dots in a line. Place a space less than the size of the two dots.
  3. Make two dots on the lower two sides of the upper dot.
  4. Repeat the process with the lower dot.
  5. Add a big dot in the center.
    • This dot is best done with a freshly dipped brush, none of the nail paint should be swept for this one.
  6. Done. For shine, apply a transparent nail polish over it (once it dries).

Tips

  • Don't make the petals too close together, it ends up looking like a big blob that way. Just keep them slightly spaced.
  • You can use a rhinestone in the middle of your nail instead of the orange or yellow dots if you want.
  • You can make smaller flowers and place them in the corner of your nail, or you can make one big flower in the center, whatever you choose!

Warnings

  • Try this over a weekend or if you have a long break, that way you can do it and not worry about looking weird if you mess it up a bit.
  • It doesn't have to look perfect, keep practicing until you find a way that you like to do it =)
  • Don't over think it, you may mess up! But don't get upset, just take a little nail polish remover and start over!

Things You'll Need

  • Method 2
    • Clean nails
    • A clear base coat
    • A color to paint on your entire nail as a 'background color'
    • A light matte color. Use a nail polish that shows up very well, you aren't going to be able to reapply it to make it darker
    • A toothpick
    • A bright yellow or orange, or really whatever color you want, to make the center dots
    • A clear top coat
    • Nail polish remover in case you mess up a bit
