Make Deep Fried Cheesecake

Are you a big dessert fan? Well here's a recipe that will be sure to tingle your sweet tooth!

Ingredients

  • Cheesecake
  • 25-30 spring roll wrappers
  • Egg wash:
    • 1 egg
    • 1 cup (240 ml) milk
  • Vegetable oil
  • Cinnamon sugar

Steps

  1. Purchase or make a cheesecake. You can use a store-bought cheesecake or one you've prepared yourself.
  2. Cut the cheesecake 3" long x 1" wide (7.5cm x 2.5cm) in size. A regular sized cheesecake will give you around 25-30 pieces.
  3. Mix the egg wash. Make your egg wash for coating the spring roll wrappers. Simply mix one egg with a cup of milk until combined.
  4. Use a basting or pastry brush to lightly coat the spring roll wrappers with the egg wash. If you get extra egg wash on the spring roll wrappers, use a napkin or paper towel to soak it up.
  5. Wrap the cheesecake in the spring roll wrappers. Lay out the spring roll wrapper and place one piece of cheesecake in the middle of each wrapper.
  6. Roll it up like you would an egg roll:
    • Fold the top of the wrapper over the cheesecake, then fold both sides towards the middle of the cheesecake.
    • Gently roll each piece of wrapped cheesecake until it is completely rolled up.
  7. Deep-fry the wrapped cheesecake pieces. Use the deep-frying pan and put about 3 inches (7.5cm) of vegetable oil in the pan and heat to 375ºF/190ºC. To test whether the oil is ready or not, stick the corner of a wrapped cheesecake in the heated oil. If the oil is ready, it will sizzle.
  8. When the oil is ready, gently place a few wrapped cheesecake pieces into the pan of oil and let them lightly-brown up for 10 seconds.
  9. Remove the deep-fried cheesecake pieces and repeat with the next batch until all pieces have been fried. Use tongs to remove them and proceed to the next step for each piece while they're still hot.
  10. Coat the fried cheesecake pieces with cinnamon sugar. After the cheesecake pieces have been in the pan for 10 seconds, use your tongs to place the hot fried cheesecake pieces into a bowl of cinnamon sugar. Coat them well and place them aside to let them cool off.
  11. Serve. The fried cheesecake pieces go well with a range of toppings, including ice-cream, caramel, hot fudge, or strawberry sauce. Whipped cream is also a good accompaniment.

Warnings

  • Be safe when cooking with oil; never leave it unattended, and use tongs or other safe implements to keep your hands well away from the frying fat.
  • Let the deep-fried cheesecake cool off for about 5 minutes before eating it.
