Make Ginataan

Ginataan is a filipino desert made of tropical fruits and coconut milk. The taste can be comparable to a fruit salad. Read on to learn how to make your own.

Ingredients

  • 3 cans 13.5 fl.oz coconut milk
  • 1 large sweet potato
  • 1 bag (1lb) frozen banana (Golden Saba)
  • 1 bag (8oz) frozen jackfruit
  • 1 bag (16oz) shredded young coconut
  • 1 bag (14oz) small sweet rice ball
  • 1/2 cup color tapioca pearl
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

You should be able to find frozen bananas (Golden Saba), frozen jackfruit, frozen young coconut, small sweet rice ball, and tapioca pearl at asian grocery stores. The rest of the ingredients can be found at common grocery stores.

Steps

  1. Gather all the ingredients.
  2. Peel the sweet potato. Cut them into small bite size cubes. Set them aside for later.
  3. Slice bananas ΒΌ inch thick. Set them aside as well.
  4. Slice the jackfruit lengthwise. Also set them aside.
  5. Pour coconut milk into the medium sized saucepan. Bring it to a boil over high heat. This should take roughly 5 minutes.
  6. Reduce the heat to medium. Add brown sugar and stir gently. Allow it to simmer for three minutes.
  7. Add the sweet rice ball and sweet potato. Let it simmer for five minutes.
  8. Add the tapioca balls. Let it simmer for another five minutes.
  9. Add the sliced bananas.
  10. Add the sliced jackfruit. Simmer for another five minutes.
  11. Add the young coconut. Let it simmer for 5 minutes
  12. Reduce heat to medium-low. Stir. Simmer for additional 20 minutes until ingredients are tender.
  13. Serve warm. Enjoy!

Warnings

  • Be sure to watch the sauce pan after reducing the heat to medium in case the coconut milk boils over.

  • Adjust heat by 1-2 increments if necessary.
