Make Outline Text in Word

Sometimes you need that extra emphasis that you get with an outline font. Maybe the background and font color are too close and it's hard to read, or maybe you just like how it looks. If you want to make your text look cool by using outline on it, these simple steps will show you how that in Microsoft Word.

Steps

Word 2010

  1. Highlight the snippet of text you want outlined. Click on the font expansion menu in the top left.
  2. Click on "Text Effects."
  3. Click on "Text Outline" in the left tab. Select the settings you want for your outline. Experiment if you have time to get exactly what you're looking for.
  4. Click on "Outline Style" to further customize your font.
  5. Click "Close," and then "OK."
  6. Your new text will have an outline. Change as necessary.

Word 2011

  1. Select the target text. Highlight the text you would like outlined.
  2. Click to open the "Format" menu. It's at the top of your screen. Then select Font...
  3. Outline the font. In the "Effects" section, enable the check box next to the word "Outline"
  4. Click "OK." Your selected text will now be outlined..
