Make Valentine Boxes for Kids

Kids in elementary schools give each other valentines on Valentine's Day. The cards can go everywhere and there's always a chance of losing a few. Instead of the standard paper bag, make a special mail box to hold them all.

Steps

  1. Get a suitable box. Make sure the box isn't too big. A box from a cake mix is a good size.
  2. Make an opening in the box. The opening has to be big enough to put in a card. To keep it simple, you can tape or glue down the top flaps inside or outside the box. This will allow valentines to drop easily into the box. If you prefer, cut out a slot in the side to make it a mailbox.
  3. Decorate the box. Let the children decorate the box as a project or do it yourself! Color or paint or write something fun on the box. Make it cool-looking with emoji designs.
  4. Use the box to collect the valentines. After you have all the valentines, empty the box. Take time to read out loud the valentine messages!

Tips

  • When cutting the box, children need to be supervised.
  • Place newspaper under the box if you use paint for easy clean up.
  • Add a string handle to make it easier to carry the box home.

Warnings

  • Remind children to be careful when handling scissors.

Things You'll Need

  • A box, preferably cardboard.
