Make a "Bomb" With Dry Ice

Ever wanted to make a loud noise with some household items? Well, if you have the time, this will fit your needs!

Steps

  1. Get some dry ice and break it into chunks that will fit in a bottle, any bottle. You must use gloves when touching dry ice, or else you will burn your hands.
  2. Take a plastic bottle, such as an empty {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} soda bottle, and fill it about 1/4th full with warm water.
  3. Put a few chunks of dry ice into the bottle using either your gloved hand, or some tongs, and squeeze the middle of the bottle.
    • Put on the cap until you begin to feel resistance to squeezing the bottle, then loosen the cap a small amount. Set the bottle on the ground, still squeezing it, and quickly tighten the cap as tight as possible, then move away quickly to a safe location.
  4. Eventually, most likely within a couple minutes, the bottle will explode from the pressure.

Tips

  • Warm water works best with this, and it needs to be filled 1/4th full or more, or else the water is likely to freeze.

Warnings

  • The bottle explodes, causing bits to go flying all over the place. Getting hit by one hurts, and if you do get hit, it will be best to put some ice or something cool and healing over it immediately. Dry ice bombs can also cause potential hearing loss due to the noise they create.
  • Do not use metal bottles or cans, as they will not explode when thrown and will develop a dangerously high pressure, which when it ruptures it will do so violently, causing serious hearing damage or serious injuries to anyone nearby. Not fun.
  • Do not use glass bottles, they will produce a cloud of very fine shards of glass.
  • The smaller you cut the chunks, the quicker the bomb will go off (more surface area). Use large chunks.
  • Be extremely careful with this, and always wear protective gear for safety. Seek parental or guardian supervision if you are a minor.
  • This is a potentially lethal experiment, not recommended.
