Make a Braided Duct Tape Bracelet
An easier way to make a duct tape bracelet by folding duct tape in half and make a little tab at the end so it is retractable.
Steps
- Get out any color duct tape. You'll also need some scissors.
- For a more accurate bracelet that perfectly fits, estimate the strip of duct tape on your wrist first. Then cut the strip of duct tape a little longer than the measurement; this allows you to easily slide the bracelet on and off.
- Fold this piece of duct tape in half. This will give you a non-sticky piece of duct tape which is much easier to work with.
- Cut the halved piece of duct tape into thirds lengthwise, making sure that the widths are equal. You should now have three long, stringy pieces of duct tape.
- Cut off a little piece of duct tape. It should be about a quarter of an inch/6mm long.
- Tape one end of all three of the lengths together in a small bundle. This is exactly the same method as you'd use for tying together threads before braiding.
- Begin braiding the three duct tape lengths together. To do this, repeatedly twist the left and right strings over the middle string as if you were braiding hair or thread.
- Once you have finished braiding, use another little piece of duct tape to fasten the other end of the braided strings together. Think of it as tying the end of the braid off with an elastic band, only you're using duct tape.
- Test the size of the duct tape bracelet on your wrist or ankle. Then take another little piece of duct tape and tape all of the ends together so that it forms a continuous loop. Finished.
- Enjoy your braided duct tape bracelet!
Tips
- When you're braiding it, you might want to take another piece of duct tape to hold it down.
- Mix and match the different colors of duct tape to make a really cool bracelet.
- Folding the duct tape tighter makes a shorter but better looking string.
- When you cut/rip the strips don't make them too big or your bracelet will look too bulky.
- You may want to have all different kinds of duct tape because then it will look cooler.
- If you fold it to cut it into thirds fold it backwards so it doesn't stick and this would make the perfect gift.
- When you are cutting the thirds, you can just rip it lengthwise instead of having to just cut it all the way.
- Before you cut it into thirds, fold it in half so it's easier to cut.
- Don't use a print; it looks bad. It looks better if you use a solid color.
- Hold the duct tape by the tips of your fingers to keep from messing up.
