Make a Cake Pop Holder
Cake pops need to stand up when they're drying. You can buy a commercially produced cake pop stand but making your own is really easy and can be made using items you'd normally recycle or dispose of.

Steps
One dozen egg carton stand
- Empty an egg carton made for a dozen eggs. Close the lid.
- Turn the egg carton upside down.
- Pierce a hole with the metal skewer into the center of each egg hole. Check with a lollipop stick that each hole made is wide enough for the stick.
- Make the cake pops and insert them into the cake pop holder to set.
Large egg carton stand
- If using a large flat egg carton (no lid), place it flat on a workspace.
- In between each egg hole, pierce a hole using the metal skewer into each raised bump of the carton.
- Using a lollipop stick, insert into the holes to check the the holes are large enough for the cake pop sticks.
- Make the cake pops and insert them into the cake pop holder to set.
Recycled Styrofoam
- Find a good sized piece of unwanted Styrofoam, perhaps from packaging that isn't needed for anything else. The foam needs to sit flat and be able to take the weight of the cake pops; a big square is a good shape.
- Simply use a skewer or lollipop stick to drill holes down the length of the foam piece at even intervals.
- Make the cake pops and insert them into the holes of the cake pop holder to set.
Cribbage board
- If you have a cribbage board, check the lollipop stick size in the holes. If the stick fits, there's nothing more you need to do other than assemble the cake pops in the holes as you make them.
Colander
- Choose a colander that has holes which will allow the lollipop stick to be pushed in.
- Turn the colander upside down on a flat surface.
- Insert the drying cake pops in the holes around the colander.
Dressing up the holder into a stand
Apart from holding cake pops to dry, unless you have a presentation idea already worked out, you might like to create a cake pop stand. The following ideas will help you make easy ones:
- Use a flat egg carton. Wrap around the carton using pretty gift paper. Pierce holes with the metal skewer in through the paper, as described in the egg carton method above. This can be used as it is or slipped into a neat box or on a serving tray with the completed cake pops inserted. Add a ribbon for a final touch.
- Fill a pretty container such as a small upright box, a little gift bucket or a basket. Cut the foam to size to fit inside the container. Cover up the foam with paper grass, cellophane strips, ribbons, or anything else that looks great. Alternatively, simply cover with pretty paper or tissue/crepe paper balls. Insert the cake pops into the container in a fan or flower shape.
- Fill a pretty jar with a wide mouth with interesting dried beans or candies. Make sure that they're packed tight, then insert the cake pops at the top. Add a ribbon around the jar.
- Fill a glass with fine sugar until it's well packed in. Insert the cake pops directly into the sugar, which will hold the sticks in place.
- If you can drill holes, pretty much anything that it's safe to drill holes into can be converted into a cake pop stand, from bread boards to unwanted wooden toys.
- Make a cake and insert the cake pop sticks into the cake. Double the amount of cake, if you align this carefully, you can slice the cake and each diner gets a slice of cake with a cake pop decoration!
Tips
- Using a colander may cause the cake pops to tilt or fall over.
