Make a Discord Channel Private on iPhone or iPad
This article teaches you how to make a Discord channel private on your iPhone or iPad. To do this, you’ll need to change the channel’s permissions and then add each user (and adjust their permissions) manually.
Steps
Changing the Channel Permissions
- Open Discord. It’s the blue or purple icon with a white game controller on your home screen.
- Tap ☰. It’s at the top-left corner of the screen.
- Select the server that hosts your channel.
- Select the channel.
- Tap the name of the channel. It’s at the top of the screen. This opens the “Channel Settings” screen.
- Tap Permissions.
- Select @everyone. It’s in the “Roles” section. This opens the “Permission Overrides” screen.
- Tap the red “X” next to “Create Instant Invite.” It’s in the first section, under “General Permissions.”
- Tap the red “X” next to “Read Messages.” It’s in the “Text Permissions” section. You may need to scroll down to find it. The channel is now private, but you must now add the users who need access.
Adding Users to the Channel
- Return to the “Channel Settings” screen. To get there, return to the channel and tap its name at the top of the screen.a
- Tap Permissions.
- Tap Add Member. You’ll see this option at the top of the “Channel Settings” screen.
- Select a user you want to add to the private channel. This opens that user’s “Permission Overrides” screen.
- Tap the green checkmark next to “Create Instant Invite.” It’s in the “General Permissions” group at the top of the screen.
- Tap the green checkmark next to “Read Messages.” You may have to scroll down to find it. It’s in the “Text Permissions” section.
- Tap Done. It’s at the top-right corner of the screen. This user can now use the channel, but the other people on the channel cannot.
- Repeat this process to add additional users to the private channel.
