Make a Substitute Sanitary Pad

If you've forgotten to bring or buy sanitary pads, or just ran out, you can use this simple guide to create a substitute pad quickly and easily, to save your embarrassment and underwear.

Steps

There are two methods of creating a temporary sanitary pad. The former works as well as an ordinary pad.

Using Cotton Wool

  1. Find a piece of cotton wool around the size of an average sanitary pad. It doesn't matter if the shape or size is perfect.
  2. Wrap your cotton wool with toilet paper.
  3. Place your substitute sanitary pad on the usual spot on your underwear.

Using only Toilet Paper

  1. Get a large amount of toilet paper. Fold the toilet paper over itself until you reach the desired thickness. The thicker (and more absorbent) you would like the pad to be, the more folds it should have.
  2. Place your substitute sanitary pad on the usual spot on your underwear.

Using Rags

  1. Find several (clean) rags around the size of an average sanitary pad. Long rags are better.
  2. Check to see if they will absorb liquids.
  3. Place your substitute sanitary pad on the usual spot on your underwear.
  4. Take spares.
  5. Wash and reuse.

Using cotton hand towels

  1. Find an old cotton hand towel, the average size, fold it in two and then once again in two
  2. Split a clear plastic bag to obtain a rectangular shape
  3. Put the folded towel over the plastic sheet and then put them on the usual spot on your underwear
  4. Use very elastic and tight panties, or two pairs
  5. For sensitive skin you could wear two panties and put the plastic sheet between the panties.

Tips

  • Wrap another strip of toilet paper around your new sanitary pad and underwear to bind them together. This will ensure it stays in place.

Warnings

  • For the second method, it should only be used for a short period of time. Change as often as possible if you are without sanitary pads for a long time, or they will leak.
  • These are only temporary solutions. Buy new ones as soon as possible or better yet, make your own.
