Make a Vodka Martini

James Bond’s favorite drink was always taken “shaken, not stirred.” The vodka martini substitutes vodka for the traditional gin in a basic martini. And not only is this a drink with lots of tradition behind it, but it's also one of the lowest calorie martinis you can make.

Ingredients

Servings: 1

  • 1 1/2 shots vodka
  • 3/4 shot dry vermouth
  • Ice
  • Olive

Steps

  1. Combine the vodka and dry vermouth in a cocktail shaker.
  2. Fill the cocktail shaker with ice and replace the lid.
  3. Shake until the alcohol is well chilled.
  4. Strain into a martini glass and serve with an olive.
  5. Finished.

Tips

  • For an easy cranberry vodka martini, use 3 shot of vodka, 5 shots of cranberry juice and 1/2 shot of vermouth. If you use diet cranberry juice (5 calories per serving) you'll still be able to call this a low calorie cocktail.
  • Purists do not add ice to their cocktail shaker. Instead, they chill their vodka and their shaker before making the martini. This chills the alcohol without the worry of the ice diluting the flavor.
  • Use a chilled Martini glass from the freezer.
  • Shake your martini shaker gently to avoid diluting the flavor of the alcohol.

Things You'll Need
