Overcome Shyness With Emotional Autosuggestion

One method to overcome shyness permanently is called emotional autosuggestion. This method is based on the principle that what we say (and what we think) has an impact on how we feel about ourselves.

When we think of ourselves as a skillful cook, there's a good chance that we are.

A very well known variant of this general principle is the self-fulfilling prophecy. By creating a habit, a daily exercise of seeing ourselves positively, we can improve permanently how we feel and act around people.

By following the steps in this article, you can obtain results in just a couple of weeks!

Steps

  1. Take a powerful positive statement about yourself. It can even be several paragraphs long. Try to include things such as, "I am beautiful," "I have great legs," or, "I'm good at acting." Read this with strong emotion, twice a day (preferably morning and evening). These statements, sometimes called affirmations, should declare your intention of getting rid of shyness and acting authentically in the world, without fear or restrictions.
  2. Read this before events you're anxious about. Examples include a meeting, a speech, or even a small party where you don't know anyone. If you have your positive statement fresh in your mind before you go, it will make things much easier.
  3. Make sure that you are in an environment where you can concentrate and relax while speaking your statements. Turn off any distractions, such as the TV or the computer. You need to really concentrate on your statements, and it's difficult whenever there is background noise, or somebody else in the room.
  4. Repeat this exercise for several days and visualize, in your minds eye, being exactly what your affirmative statement says you are.
  5. Create a more powerful statement after a couple of days. You should then start exercising with this instead.

Tips

  • You don't have to believe in the method for it to work; just try it.
  • Be sure to write the truth about yourself, so that when you repeat it several times each day you feel happy about yourself. Whereas if it was just a lie or something you wanted to be true but actually wasn't, it would slowly sink your emotions and confidence and you would start dreading instead of being happy with yourself.
  • Repeat your statement as emotionally as you can, like an actor.
  • Don't discount this simple method, just because it seems so simple! It is extremely powerful and has helped many people change their lives.
