Pick a Race and Class for the Horde in World of Warcraft

Don't know what race or class to pick for the Horde? Here is a race and class matchup for what you may want to be.

Steps

  1. Establish what you want to do. There are three main roles to choose from in World of Warcraft
    • The Tank
    • The Healer
    • DPS
  2. The Tank.
    • The tank's role is to take all the damage in a dungeon or raid. A tank does this by drawing the mob over (pulling), and then attacking it so it stays drawn to them (holding "aggro").
  3. The Healer.
    • It is the healer's job to keep everyone alive. When the tank pulls, it is up to the healer to heal them so they don't get killed by any of the mobs or bosses. But be careful, healing creates threat, (threat is the system a mob uses to determine whether to attack you), and if you generate more threat than the tank... well, just be prepared to heal yourself.
  4. DPS (Damage per Second)
    • It is up to the DPS to kill the bosses in dungeons. But, attacking the mob or boss creates threat, and having more threat than the tank is bad. A useful add on is Omen3 Threat meter. This allows you to see who has aggro, and how much threat each party member has.
  5. Pick a class depending on your interests.
    • Tanking: Paladin, Warrior, Death Knight and Druid
    • Healing: Paladin, Priest, Shaman and Druid
    • DPS: Mage, Priest, Paladin, Warrior, Shaman, Druid, Death Knight, Rogue, Hunter and Warlock
  6. Pick a race that best suits that class. You may need to read the race description when you create a new character, and look at racial abilities. If you want to be a Warrior, you are going to want a Sword/Axe specialization and/or a lot of health, For a mage, more mana etc. etc.
  7. Customise and name your character.
  8. Note that many classes can do different roles. This is decided by which talent specialisation you choose.
    • Paladin: Holy (healer), Protection (tank), Retribution (dps)
    • Warrior: Arms (dps), Fury (dps), Protection (dps)
    • Death Knight: Blood (tank), Frost (dps), Unholy (dps)
    • Druid: Balance (dps), Feral Combat (dps/tank), Restoration (healer)
    • Priest: Discipline (healer), Holy (healer), shadow (dps)
    • Shaman: Elemental (dps), Enhancement (dps), Restoration (healer)
    • Mage: Arcane (dps), Fire (dps), Frost (dps)
    • Rogue: Assassination (dps), Combat (dps), Subtlety (dps)
    • Hunter: Beast Mastery (dps), Marksmanship (dps), Survival (dps)
    • Warlock: Affliction (dps), Demonology (dps), Destruction (dps
  9. Have fun and join a Guild.
