Install World of Warcraft Addons
One of the biggest advantages you can have in World of Warcraft is by using WoW add-ons. Add-ons will allow you to customize your screen, make complex actions extremely easy, and help give you the upper hand while playing against other players. This article covers how to install any World of Warcraft add-on you may find useful.
Steps
- Find which WoW add-on you want to install and download.
- Unzip the downloaded file using Winzip or any other file zip program.
- Place the unzipped folder in the World of Warcraft Interface Add-ons directory, usually C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Interface\Add-ons .
- Load up World of Warcraft and click on the Add-ons button in the lower left corner of the character select screen.
- If the add-on is installed properly it will show up in this menu. Also, if you do not have any other add-ons installed and this one isn't installed properly then the Add-ons button will not show up.
- Once you know the add-on is installed properly login to the game and check it out.
Tips
- Once placed into the WoW folder the path should look like: C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Interface\Addons\FolderName\AddonFile(s).lua
- There are many sites you can use to download different WoW add-ons.
- Some add-ons come with a built in application that will setup the add-on automatically for you without any need to do the setup manually. You will just need to specify where you downloaded the add-on and the application will set it up for you. A good example of such hands free add-ons is Nubun Alliance Guide. The in-game mod offered comes with its own installer that will set it up for you as shown in the picture:
- Sometimes you can see some add-ons labelled as "Out of Date" on the add-on page as shown in the picture:
- In this case, make sure to check "Load Out of Date Add-ons" as shown in the picture below; otherwise, your add-on will not load:
- Once the file is unzipped check to make sure it is in this format: FolderName\addonfile.lua
Warnings
- Always be sure to virus scan the add-on files after you download. This also applies to everything you download. This will help protect your computer.
